finally got around to renting Grand Torino last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't know if it was supposed to be a comedy, but I laughed a lot

When a sunlight-phobic teen (Junio Valverde) moves to a remote mountain town -- coinciding with a series of mass killings -- everyone naturally suspects the strange newcomer. But the forest holds a spine-tingling secret that explains everything. Academy Award-winning production designer Pilar Revuelta (Pan's Labyrinth) applies her artistic eye to this atmospheric Spanish-language horror film that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008.
Another Netflix quality find. Maybe it was the fact that I had to pay closer attention since this one was in Spanish and was subtitled, but I found it to be a truly creepy movie. While it wasn't perfect, overall it was quite well done. I actually enjoyed this one more than Paranormal Activity. The writing was great; the cinematography and sound effects were good as well.

Seems the majority of good horror flicks that I've seen recently have been foreign. What's up with that? We've lost our edge by focusing on shock value over good story and directing.

I also saw Following and gave it 4 stars as well, but not quite as strong of a 4-star rating. It's clever, and I'm a fan of the hop-around timeline concept. A couple nice twists that I didn't see coming (but wasn't really looking that deeply either). Overall a very enjoyable film. More props to Netflix instant view...because I wouldn't have rented either of these movies.

Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) writes and directs this odd, claustrophobic neo-noir film about a seedy young Brit (Jeremy Theobald) who's obsessed with following people -- albeit harmlessly at first. After meeting a like-minded bloke (Alex Haw), the twosome graduate to breaking and entering -- but meet their match in a tough blonde dame (Lucy Russell) who may have dubious plans of her own.

Just watched "Primal Fear" last night for the first time since it came out. Now I remember why I immediately became such a huge fan of Edward Norton, with this being his first (I think) big role. Fantastic film. If you've never seen it, definitely watch it. If you haven't seen it in years, check it out again.

I saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie last night. AMAZING movie. It was funny, mysterious, clever, witty, the acting was supurb, CGI could have been a little better, but the movie wasn't really based around CGI like a certain other movie...the story/plot was good, kept a good pace throughout the movie and kept ou guessing right up to the end.

Overall a really fun movie to watch. Havn't seen a movie like this in a long time.

Wait, let me check my calendar... no, not 4/1. So, seriously? That good? Previews seemed to be making Sherlock Holmes into an action hero, which made me want to run away & cry.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!*

While there is some action in the movie (gun shots, fights, etc.) dark, mysterious, and clever reign supreme in this flick. And the action scenes/fight scenes have a clever twist on them (Holmes is a genious and can identify the weakpoints and just about anything from anyone just by looking at them). It's a Mystery, Sci-Fi, Fantasy movie that pulls it all off quite nicely IMO.

The dialog is really entertaining and moves at a good pace. The banter between Holmes and Watson are always great, though the heavy british accent of Holmes was a little hard to understand in 1 or 2 parts. But nothing to honestly worry about.

The ending of the movie leaves it open to the possibility of a sequal. It's not one of those cliffhanger endings though.

definitely one to see in the theaters.

OK, this still sounds cheesy. But not as annoying as Holmes being a comic book style action star, so maybe I'll give this a shot.

I just came back from seeing Daybreakers. Meh.

A Futuristic Vampire Movie. Humans are on the verge of extinction due to the Vampire population hunting them and farming them for blood. Human resistence is set up. Cure trying to be found while the Vampires are looking for a blood substitute. Lots of blood and gore. A couple jumpy parts. Kinda predictable. Nothing really WOW about the plot. Nothing really WOW about the acting.

If you NEED to see a vampire movie and don't want to see Twilight make Vampires seem like little wimpy sparkly creatures with feelings, this would be the movie I guess.

Overall? Meh. I'd rent it rather than see it in theaters.

A very entertaining and clever zombie flick. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, this one is right up there. Like the Twinkies that Woody Harrelson lusts for, it doesn't have a whole lot of substance, but it's oh so enjoyable! I've never reveled in ways to whack zombies as much as I did with this film.

Just saw "Grown-ups". If you like Adam Sandler and the rest of the Saturday Night Live SNL and Kevin James - go see it. I laughed almost non-stop.......looked like it would bomb, but it was funny. ;)b

Saw "Quarantine" based on the reviews on Netflix. It wasn't nearly as scary as many of the reviewers posted, but then again maybe I'm getting jaded with the horror genre as a whole. Overall I was pleased that the premise and storyline of the movie didn't have any gaping holes. A reporter (for "Dexter" fans, you'll recognize our leading lady) follows some firefighters into a building and it gets quarantined with them inside. Then everyone gets bitten/infected and/or dead while she and her camera guy get it all on film. That of course means the entire film is done in shaky cam...not my favorite but it works for this film ( :offtopic: I heard they're actually teaching shaky-cam technique in film school now, sigh  ). Based on what is causing everyone to get bitten, it isn't exactly a zombie flick, but everything else about the movie is definitely zombie genre. Nothing really new or clever here, but it's entertaining. 3 out of 5 stars just for a storyline that actually works and some good edge-of-your-seat scenes. Honestly though, I'm a bit disappointed they picked this frame for the cover of the movie. Those that have seen the movie will understand why.

I'm on a zombie kick lately I guess. Next on my Netflix queue is "28 Weeks Later". Here's hoping it's at least half as good as the first...

rented Invictus from the Chili Red Box, couldn't wait for it to be over. Really like Morgan Freemand and Matt Damon too, but it was just way too boring.

That's pretty high on our queue. Guess it's time to move it down and hope it goes to instant view instead.
