Track Wheels

Post by ChristianO »

Just wondering what size track wheels everyone uses I was thinking 18s but going to an 8 or 9 width. I use slicks for tires. Any feedback is appreciated.

some of us are on 17s - some on 16s

width varies from std 205 to 225

really depends on your set up and what kind of track you are speaking of

225/17R45 all the way around on stock springs/struts with Nitto NT01s. I was previously running with the 205/17R45 on stock webspokes which were great for my level of track experience. I autocrossed them once and they did fine.

18's are generally too heavy and tire selection is limited. i run one set of 17 X 7.5 SSR's (which will have intermediates on them) and have been waiting forever for two sets of Kodiak 17X8's. i will run 225/40/17 Hoosier R6's on one set (my usual tire) and test a set of 235/625/17 Hankook F200's on the other. wheels wider than 8" and/or tires wider than 235 will require body work.
i'm out of room before i'm out of gears.

Track Wheels and Tires

I think all have convinced me to loose the 18" street wheels for 17's on track days, what brand of R comp's are people happy with?

For your first R-comp I would go with either the Toyo RA-1 in a 205/40/17 or the Nitto NT01 in the 215/45/17. Still predictable with tons of grip! The Toyos you will need to shave. The Nitto's you won't.

We plan to use a 225/45 15 A6 on a 15 x 8 for our car in December at the Atlanta TT.

Hi! I noticed that both Toyo and Nitto have recommended for track tires. Is it true that there are some Toyo and Nitto tires made with the same compound? Although there's a price difference, some people say that the tires from these brands have the same compound on a different carcass.

By the way, I've read that Nitto is a subsidiary of Toyo.
