Mini involved in Accident in TT/HPDE 4 at Homestead

Post by maitland »

I heard it was a red mini and the miata involved was likely a total. Anyone know who it was?

This past weekend or a while back? Bud runs spec miata/got into it with another miata and it looked like a mini was involved. Was a few weeks ago though

Nope this was this past Saturday. Luis came to mind as he runs homestead every now and then. Didn't think he was in HPDE 4 or TT though.

Yep, looks like Chili Red R56 with white top. Looks like the Miata could have avoided (but I don't race so...) :-k

Once your in the grass brakes and steering are a suggestion not an action. It was pretty unavoidable.

I second that!

grass and dirt might as well be ice - especially at that point of the course, you come off the backstretch running full out, lift a second, turn left and go right back into full throttle (actually one of my favorite parts of that track)

once the MINI went all Baja 4000 and the Evo checked up and the Miata went right, nothing he could do but go along for the ride

I actually think the Evo left him no choice, if you are just clearing someone a cardinal sin is to slam on your brakes - and in my opinion, the EVO was at no risk (from the footage we can see) who knows if there was something else going on (on the track) we onlky see the MINI off in the dirt

Only good thing that came out of this, is that the MINI didn't turn another 140 degrees and the Miata hit it driverside

i wouldn't be surprised if the MINI is a complete total also

For those of us who don't know... how does insurance work on the track? I'm sure your "regular" auto insurance doesn't cover anything, but when you track your car do you typically get any type of insurance for that?

Luis doesn't have a white roof, and I saw him last week and his car looked fine. I bailed into the grass once when a Porsche checked up in turn 10. You might as well be on a slip 'n slide.

Some insurance will cover 'Driver Education', my AFLAC policy covered injury for example. They do sell track insurance (Tarheel BMWCCA had some arrangement). I think it was $400 for the weekend, but I'm not positive.

I don't recognize the car, but then again I have not been out for quite some time. I'm going to the ERME 2-for-1 event on June 4th though.

lift? Come on that corner is flat in just about anything. I took it flat at 112mph on stock suspension in mine.

Now I agree the Evo is almost at fault here. His reaction was way to exazgerated for the situation and those behind him suffered. The other question is why was the mini off track way down there anyway?

One of only 2 places I have had the rear end go out on me at HMS was just after 12 I wasn't sure why.....

I agree on the over reaction theory, I had am M3 sign his autograph in rubber on the entrance to the front straight. Everybody rassed me for not hitting the brakes but I knew the red mini was behind me.....This is from the Red Mini...

Looks to me like you "know how to dance" on the track. I would have done the same. Thanks for sharing the video :)
