Sebring Video from hooked on driving

Post by maitland »

Video from Sebring with Hooked on Driving. I went down to help out a customer with his R56 and he let me take some laps. Never got a traffic free lap but his R56 is TTD legal and I think even being held up we dropped into the 39's. (TTD lap record is a 39). Excited as Ali will be running it in TTD later on this year and might bring home some wins. I drove this car about a year ago and since then he's gotten a tune on it. What a difference it made on the R56, virtually no lag any more! I'm not a Fan of the R56 engine but the chassis I do like better. His is a bit pushy... Enjoy the vid

Great video. Making me really want to get back out to Sebring sometime soon.

Haha... I was just posting in the thread that Ali started on NAM. I never made the connection between the Ian @ Maitland imports and the guy on SSM named Ian that goes by "Maitland" until just now. :-D

Anyway, like I said on NAM, I'll be at Sebring in a couple weeks, but I'd love to get out there sometime when you're out there to see you and your MINI in action and maybe get some MINI-specific driving tips.

Awesome video, btw, those guys in the 400whp+ Vette's can't be all that happy with being passed by a MINI. I'm sure you're used to that, though.

I did my first TT with Florida region last year and it was when the mixed HPDE 4 and TT together. Well the HPDE 4 guys don't have transponders so they don't know how quick they are and in order for TT to work everyone needs to be gridded by their lap time so no one gets held up by slower cars. In the meeting they went around the room to ask the HPDE 4 guys for an "ESTIMATE" on their lap times. A GT3, 240z Race car, and Z06 on slicks all said "oh we're quicker then the yellow mini" and got gridded in front of me. I gave the GT3 a 10 second gap as we came around on the 1st flyer. I caught the GT3 before turn 2, Caught the 240z in turn 6 and caught the Z06 (some 15 seconds ahead) before the end of the lap. Their estimations were nearly 15 seconds off the actual time they were lapping. They were all good guys and came an apologized afterwards. They have all since bought transponders and stepped up their lap times to be quite quick now.

That's great... Nice that they came and apologized, too. Honestly, I would have figured a modded Z06 on slicks would be faster, too... but that's what makes driving a car that's an "underdog" or unassuming great. Of course, great driving helps, too.

A well driven Z06 (c5) on r-comps can get below a 2:20 at sebring. The T1 lap record I believe is held by a non-Z06 C6 (430hp) that's mostly stock (shocks and a restrictor) at like a 2:19 in the dead of winter. I lapped a bone stock GT3 on street tires to a 2:24 so that should also be capible of close to a 2:20 dead with race tires. So yes they should be faster.
